April Fools Joke - 'United States to Ban Raw Meat Sales'Outline
News snippet circulating via social media claims that the United States is set to ban raw meat sales as a means of ensuring that only pathogen free meats are sold to the public.
The claims are false and began life as an April Fools joke. The snippet links back to a longer report published on Mercola.com on April 1st, 2014. The report identifies itself as an April Fools Day prank. Nevertheless, well past April 1, the news snippet continues to circulate, duping at least a few wide-eyed recipients as it travels.
United States to Ban Raw Meat Sales
A 'breaking news' snippet currently circulating via Facebook and other social media sites claims that the United States government is about to ban the sales of raw meats in order to ensure that only pathogen free meats are sold to the public. The snippet links back to a longer report published on Mercola.com.
Not surprisingly, however, the claims in the message are untrue. The report that the 'news' snippet comes from is just an April Fools joke. Those who click the link and actually read the full report will see that the report actually identifies itself as an April Fools day joke.
But, alas, although April 1st is done and gone, the news snippet continues to circulate, fooling at least a few recipients into believing that they will soon not be able to buy raw meat in the United States. Many will not click through to read the full report. And many who do go to the report, will not read far enough to see the April Fools joke disclaimer. While the report does own up to the joke, it is also clearly intended to push the Mercola website's particular agenda on health issues. Many would suggest that much of the material published on the Mercola site is factually dubious in any month of the year.
